Continuing Activities Don't forget our regular special activities. Our crafts group meets the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon at Village Oaks Assisted Living Center, 16911 San Pedro. If you would like to participate, call Marian Harrell at 655-9659. The instructor is Delores Hayes. The Low Vision Club also bowls with the BVA (Blinded Veterans Association) on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Brunswick Thousand Oaks Bowl, 4330 Thousand Oaks. The cost is $1 per game, but shoes and ball are included in that price. If you would like to participate or need more information, call Adela Aguilar 922-4368.
What A Way To End 2000! Our largest party ever-130 people-celebrated Christmas for the 4th time at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church on Dec. 16th. And thanks to our special events committee headed by Josefina Miller, the party was outstanding. Assisting her were Bobbie McCrary, Yolanda and Sam Aguirre, Pegie and Manuel Gonzalez, Irma Claudio, Ed Brown, Adela Aguilar, Jean Paletta, and Gloria Miranda. This committee is now beginning to think about our annual picnic coming this Spring. We also want to thank the following contributors of door prizes for the party: Louis Paletta, Jean Paletta, Adela Aguilar, San Antonio Lighthouse, Maggie's Restaurant, Outback Steakhouse, Bennigan's Restaurant, Pollo Loco, and the Hair Preference Beauty Shop.
Audio Cassettes We are providing this newsletter on audio cassettes to those of you who have requested it. Last month, Ed Brown produced and sent out about 60 tapes, and he will continue to do so with each issue. If you want to be added to the list, call Ed Brown at 735-1802. We also plan to make our Resource Guide available on audio cassette or on a disk (either CD or Floppy). If you would like the Resource Guide on a disk, call Bob Hobson at 567-8419. If you would prefer it on an audio cassette, call Ed Brown at 735-1802. It will be some time in the future before this is completed, but we are starting to take names now. We owe a big vote of thanks to the Central Park Lions Club who generously provided funds for our club to purchase a tape eraser and duplicating equipment to make all this possible.
Memorials and Donations Donations to the club also were made recently by Eugene Massy, Roger Miller and Charles Justin Miller. These gifts help finance the activities of our club and are greatly appreciated.
Larry Roser Honored LVC Club member Larry Roser was honored in October by the American Red Cross with an Outstanding Disaster Volunteer Award. Larry also received a desktop quartz watch as an award from Community First. He was one of only 19 finalists.
Quick Notes About A Lot of Things As the club's membership grows, we find we need more and more drivers to transport members to club meetings. If you know someone who is willing to volunteer as a driver for our club, call Bonnie at 344-1479, and he or she will be contacted. Dave Gillman says you can make an advance reservation with Via Trans via long distance by calling 1-866-362-5050. If you're out of town, you can get them to meet you at the airport upon your arrival. If you need some information, try calling "Tell Me" at 1-800-555-8355. They will give you a menu for weather, sports, etc. A voice-activated cell phone is now available from Samsung. Just flip open the top and say the name of the person you want to dial, or you can tell it to call home. These phones are available at many stores including Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, etc.
